Description |
Sommer Building, ca. 1915. Torn down in 1960 to make way for U. S. National Bank. From the Morning Democrat newspaper 12-6-1905: "Adler, Lee Brothers, and Sommer, owners of the quarter block where stands the Highland Hotel and Adler's store, a 3-story structure on Front St., have decided to finish the block by erecting on the corner, the old brewery site, a 4-story annex...with an elevator and full glass front...and a modern rathskeller (sic) in the basement." The two signs projecting from building at left say: "Elks Hotel" and Ernst's Cafe." The sign at the right says: "Rand Realty." The name "Sommer" is above the door at the Washington St. entrance. |
