Robinette school house New Years dance band, 1950. |
Description |
Robinette school house New Years dance band, 1950. Far left is Winnie Avery. Winnie and her husband, Ted, farmed alfalfa extensively on Powder River, as well as north of Robinette on the Oregon side of the Snake River. Ted studied alfalfa farming and innovated irrigation and harvesting techniques for better alfalfa seed yields. Their home was at the foot of Halfway Grade (aka Sag Road) 3 miles from Snake River (4 miles from Robinette), where the dirt road to Robinette branched off from the paved road Pine Valley to Baker City. See record 2016.2.245, looking down the Halfway Grade to Powder River. Ted and Winnie's home is just out of sight to the right behind the hill. Their home was also flooded by the waters of Brownlee Reservoir in 1958. Road since vacated as a county road; access to area is now through private property. |
