    Baker City's first post office. Located in postmaster William F. McCrary's Variety Store in the middle of the 1700 block of Main St. east side. All the buildings in this block burned down in 1887. McCrary had been postmaster in Auburn but moved the post office to Baker City in 1865, according to Isaac Hiatt, "Thirty-one Years in Baker County," p. 50.
